Palm Springs Modular House
The Palm Springs project involved a strong branding strategy for the manufacturer. A series of 4 size variants of the same generic house was developed: the A2, A3, A4, A6 - each of them offering the possibility of further compositional modifications.
The basic element of the Palm Springs series is a standardized modular unit, with clearly distinguishing sectional, compositional and formal properties of the living spaces of the house. The ground floor plan was intentionally kept simple to permit additional modification – the modules are easily interchanged or added to the basic composition. The construction consists of prefabricated wood-panels for floors, outer walls, bearing walls and the roof. The exterior panels of the facade are then clad with a thin layer of copper laid in vertical strips.
The conception of the house was very much dependent on the use of technology during the design and manufacturing process. Our virtual models and their files are relatively simple and are entirely manageable on the 3-axes milling machine currently used by the manufacturer. We are convinced that «paperless projects» and a fully digital design process are inevitable components of future architectural reality.
