Abrigo / Manifiesto

XXI century, automobiles are still on the ground, and time surpasses its relation with space, transforming the imagen(action) in virtuality. Poverty increases and the great majority live badly, rich or poor, from houses to the cities; we, architects are fated to total contempt and incomprehension by those who hire us, while we think of the masses as a social constitution, stimulating copies, uselessness and the repetition of global photogenic styles, avoiding punctual questionings and resolutions.

We are letting the tracks left by great architects be erased, we must open the doors of our professional meetings, go to the streets with our perceptions, so civil society can understand and see through our eyes.
Maybe, as architect Oscar Niemeyer says, architecture is not really important, that what is important is to change this unjust world; so let us use architecture as one of our tools, since it is in actions, intentions and inventions where the differences that qualify us are found.
The cities are being altered, communal spaces are now the negative of construction speculation and areas shrink in direct proportion to the number of ornaments on the facades; beggars are confused with their belongings, wrapped in plastic bags – inhumanely invisible.
We would live in town, not living in cocoons like with sky view and to ignore the dirty floor.
The shelter/manifest was created primarily to protect human beings of the most diverse places, and secondly alter the perception of those who pass by and don’t see beyond their cell phones.
This shelter is built of two bases of wooden strips placed in parallel about one meter apart (may be wider if needed) from which are attached wires intertwined two by two within a rubber hose, which permits mobility and flexibility.
This rubber hose/structural wire set has three distinct lengths, creating three layers on which to fix roof coverings. On the two highest layers are aluminum sheets on the outside (reflecting heat) and jute with resin on the inner side, creating a fiber of greater resistance for the material. These sheets will placed one over the other with a space between them so air can circulate, and they can slide over the rubber hose /structural wire providing better thermal isolation. Below these sheets, followed by another space for air circulation, is impermeable PVC covering with nylon fibers involving the dweller from above and isolates him from humidity of the ground below.
The malleable extremities formed by the wire and rubber hose make it possible to increase the internal area.
By lifting one of the wooden bases, the shelter, up to now forming an arch,
transforms into a letter «c», making it possible for the dweller to set his belonging within the PVC covering that involved him. Following the transformation the dweller continues to fold the kit, now in form of a snail and ties it up.
Two small wheels located on the wooden base make locomotion possible. The form does not derive from the function, since this characterizes itself, but by the fragmentation and movement of its parts in search of the desired action. Let us face the urgency of leading from those who degrade our profession. Let architecture not belongs those senseless images, not separate thoughts, academic speech and reality; and make a crowd liaison.
Let’s take it seriously.
