Juan Herreros introduces «Dialogue Architecture» at the 13th International Architecture Biennale
"La apertura de un diálogo sobre qué, cómo y quiénes son relevantes en lo concerniente a la práctica de la arquitectura. La difusión del conocimiento técnico y cultural como herramienta para el diálogo y el anclaje de las ideas." Esta es el tema que plantea Juan Herreros para la 13 era. Biennale di Venezia, que tendrá lugar el 29 de agosto al 25 de noviembre de 2012.
“Opening a dialogue about what, how, and who are relevant as far as the practice of architecture is concerned. Spreading technical knowledge and culture as a tool for dialogue and anchorage of ideas.” This is the goal of architect’s Juan Herreros offering at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, which will take place from August 29th to November 25th.
The exhibition acknowledges once again the acclaimed Spanish architect’s career, whose projects will be on display at the Central Pavillion, also known as Italian Pavillion, at the Giardiani area, after being selected by this year’s curator David Chipperfield.
Chipperfield, who has chosen the motto “Common Ground” seeks to reaffirm the existence of an architectural existence made up with the diverse individual talents that can only shine if confronted with different ideas, contexts and skills in some sort of collective enterprise. For this reason, the architect wants to point out that the work at his studio Herreros Arquitectos, more than his own activity, will be shown in a purposely built mise-en-scene and which will entail a selection of shapes, building details and work dynamics apparently unrelated or autonomous from the buildings they are in fact linked to, among which some as emblematic as the Munch Museum in Oslo (Norway), the Intermodal Railway Station in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), the International Convention Centre in Bogotá (Colombia) or Casa Garoza 10.1 (Spain), which has recently been awarded at the Architectural Review House Awards.
Juan Herreros, who through his offering seeks to enhance interaction and nod to the community of specialists, generally uncredited, who enable the dialogue from the technique in the associated constructive sections, is the only Spanish architect, along with Rafael Moneo, to exhibit his work at the international section.
Curator David Chipperfield has gathered in this personal exhibition some 60 guests, between architects and artists, through whose work he attempts to stage and make apparent a world in which well-established pros and new arrivals from every corner of the world, with different visions, are able to build a collective intelligence of sorts, entirely entrenched in the zeitgeist.
