Guest house for the State Stud in Marbach, Germany

The guest house was built for the accommodation of training participants and is located on the grounds of the Main and State Stud Marbach, the oldest state stud of Baden-Württemberg. In order to keep the adjacent pasture as large as possible, the new building was placed in close proximity to existing residential development. The three-storey guest house complements the listed farmhouse ensemble, pushing gently into the slight tilt of the southern slope. The buildings exterior shows dark lacquered wooden siding, inspired by the materials of the surrounding buildings. Small, rounded balconies, lined with artificial turf, and white-painted embrasures enliven the homogeneous exterior and the familiar material-mix.

From the south you access the guest houses simply furnished rooms by the middle level. Above the hallway on the north side of the house there is a large, gently sloping roof with a skylight providing ample natural light. Exposed brick and exposed concrete define the subtle, practical character of the interior.
