Richard Francis-Jones is a highly awarded and leading contemporary Australian architect. Richard is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, and in 2012 was invested as an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.

Richard received his architectural education at the University of Sydney (where he was awarded the University Medal in Architecture) and Columbia University in New York, through an ITT Fellowship. He had led a distinguished architectural career, designing many highly-awarded buildings and winning several international architectural competitions. He is Design Director and the nominated architect of Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp (fjmt), a highly acclaimed practice noted for its commitment to the public domain.

Highly awarded projects designed by Richard have been widely published in Australian and International journals and books. International architecture wards received for projects designed by Richard include the World Architecture Festival World Building of the Year, World Architecture Festival Office Award (in both 2012 & 2014), AIA International Architecture Award, RIBA International Architecture Award, New Zealand Institute of Architects Medal, International Architecture Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the International Public Library of the Year Award from the Danish Agency of Culture.

Richard has taught and lectured in architecture, design and theory in Australia and abroad since 1987. He was Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Columbia University and is currently Visiting Professor at the University of New South Wales.

Richard is an editor of Content, a critical review of architecture (published by UNSW Press), and has written extensively on architecture. He has convened several architectural conferences and in 2008 was Creative Director of the Australian Institute of Architects National Conference. he is a former president of the AIA NSW Chapter and a former member of the NSW Architects Registration Board.
