Big number of replies to call for abstracts!
We have received around a thousand email including over 800 abstracts, and the refereeing procedure has started. We thank you all for the enthusiasm and support that you have incorporated into the organization of this event. Authors will be notified the results by e-mail in mid-January, 2005. Submission of full-papers will be due mid-April, 2005. We hope this meeting will make place in our memories.

Notice Board has been launched
UIA 2005 Istanbul website?s Notice Board is now open to everyone who wishes to exchange short notes. You may exchange your short notes like searching for a travel partner to Istanbul or a roommate for accomodation with the aid of this board.

Take the advantage of early registration!
We would like to remind you that the deadline for early registration fee is 31.December.04. Those who have not registered yet but who wish to participate in the largest architectural event of this year, are invited to the web site of the congress.
You may register to the congress via its website www.uia2005istanbul.org. If you want to use the advantages of early registration fee, you may register by your credit card or by bank transfer from the following link.

Student Competition
The Chamber of Architects of Turkey has announced the UIA 2005 Istanbul Student Competition ?EXTREME?. The competition aims to provide an opportunity for the future architects to demonstrate their creative powers in the face of challenging conditions by designing spaces for different functions chosen by them at places which are extraordinary in terms of their geographic location, topography, flora, climate as well as social and political conditions.
The international jury will meet in Istanbul before the Congress to evaluate the projects. UNESCO will award the grand prize of $7.000 to the winner on July the 6th 2005 during the prize giving ceremony, which is an official part of the XXII World Architecture Congress.
All students enrolled in schools that are recognized by UIA Member Section in their country are strongly encouraged to participate in this honourable international competition. Make note to visit the competition?s web page for further details and keep in mind that the deadline for registration is January 25, 2005!

VENUES
In every issue of the newsletter, a congress venue will be presented under this heading. We start the first issue with the I.T.U. Taskisla Building, in which the new UIA Office is established.
I.T.U. Taskisla
In UIA 2005 Congress Taskisla Building, with its many halls and classrooms, will host part of the afternoon sessions of the Congress, presentations, chatrooms and free-speech corners. A number of exhibitions and promotion boots for institutions, firms and NGOs will also be hosted by this large building.
