stpmj is an award winning design practice based in New York and Seoul. The office is founded by Seung Teak Lee and Mi Jung Lim with the agenda, “Provocative Realism”. It is a series of synergetic explorations that occur on the boundary between the ideal and the real. It is based on simplicity of form and detail, clarity of structure, excellence in environmental function, use of new materials, and rational management of budget. To these we add ideas generated from curiosity in everyday life as we pursue a methodology for dramatically exploiting the limitations of reality. We design creative and innovative culture at different scales, ranging from architecture to urban strategies, tangible practices and utopian ideas with unforeseen manners.

stpmj has been recognized with architectural awards including, Architectural Record Design Vanguard (2017), American Institute of Architects New York Design Award (2017), Korean Ministry of Cultre, Sports and Tourism Young Architects Award (2016), Kim Swoo Geun Preview Award (2016), American Institute of Architects New Practices New York (2016) and Architectural League Young Architects + Designers (2012). Our work has been widely featured in online & offline publications, and exhibited in Storefront for Art and Architecture, Parsons The New School for Design, John David Mooney Foundation Hall and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art(Korea), etc.

Seung Teak Lee / Principal

Seung Teak Lee was born in Seoul, Korea. After graduating with B.E and M.E from Korea University, he received his M.Arch from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He was the recipient of the Architectural Department Faculty Design Award from Harvard and was also a finalist for the SOM architecture and urban traveling fellowship 2009. He has won several awards in international design competitions and exhibitions. Before co-founding stpmj he worked at nARCHITECTS and LEVENBETTS in New York, Herzog & de Meuron in Basel and nSYSTEMLAB in Seoul. He is currently stpmj’s Seoul Office Director and an adjunct professor at Kookmin University.

Mi Jung Lim, AIA / Principal 

Mi Jung Lim was born in Seoul, Korea. After graduating with B.S from Yonsei University, she received her B.Arch from Rhode Island School of Design and M.Arch from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She is a registered architect in the state of New York. Before co-founding stpmj she worked at SOM, Andrew Berman Architect in New York and office DA in Boston. She is currently stpmj’s New York Office Director, an adjunct professor at Hongik University, and a Seoul Metropolitan Government Architect.
