Kraaijvanger Architects was founded in 1927 by two brothers, Evert and Herman Kraaijvanger, following in the footsteps of their father. The office grew with the post-war reconstruction of Rotterdam, many of the projects build in in the 1950’s are now notable monuments, with Concert Hall De Doelen as its most iconic example.

Today Kraaijvanger Architects specialises in complex and sustainable projects in a metropolitan context.  More than half the people in the world today live in cities. This urban density generates an exciting dynamic, giving rise to innovation and prosperity, and offering opportunities for efficient use of resources. In this light, Kraaijvanger Architects aims to help create a healthier world and a more attractive and more enjoyable living environment. We see cities as ecosystems, with buildings that live and breathe, buildings that are continually being reborn.

The best example of this vision is the City Hall Venlo, a true eye catcher that improves the heath of both its surrounding and users. Other recent projects of note include the home of the Netherlands biggest private collection: Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar; the impressive municipal offices of Utrecht, at the hearth of the Netherlands biggest public transport hub; as well as several transformation and renovation projects extending the life cycle of existing buildings while improving energy efficiency and adding an activity-based working concept for a more optimised use available space and resources.

City Hall Venlo

The Venlo region is the world’s first to fully embraced the principles of cradle-to-cradle (C2C), not only did they set this goal for themselves - all products and materials, at all levels of operation, must be 100% reusable and environmentally friendly in production, use and re-use - they also actively attract companies and entrepreneurs with these ambitions.
