Japanese styled cafe with wabi-wabi aesthetics

Current consumer culture codes set a benchmark for sustainable development, environmental friendliness, natural themes, traditional heritage and Japanese crafts. This interior of the coffee shop is a modern interpretation of soft minimal aesthetics and wabi sabi design codes. This is the aesthetics of Japanese minimalism, for instance – wood as the main material, light palette of colours, natural textured materials, geometric patterns, handmade details. Design team focused on simple natural finishes: light oak, beige bouclé, natural split stone. As you know, love for nature and reverence for wood are deeply rooted in Japanese culture. The rough surface of the stone contrasts with the warm texture of wool and leather, giving the interior a contemporary feel.

Kissaten coffee shop is a two-story building with a gabled roof in Japanese style. Sliding doors on the ground floor lead to a garden with bonsai trees. The space on the second floor is significantly larger than the first, so there are plenty of seats, a lounge area with comfortable chairs and a large bar area. Daylight streaming through the windows creates a calm atmosphere. Instead of walls, wooden screens were used to zone the space and create decorative accents. Large furniture items, chairs, sofas, tables, a bar counter – everything is custom made, according to the designers' sketches.

The Japanese Garden in Galitsky Park is the world's largest Japanese-styled garden outside of Japan. The climate and developed infrastructure of the Krasnodar Territory made it possible to bring such large-scale project to life, reimagining aesthetics of traditional Japanese landscape art and architecture, harvesting many plants typical of classical Japanese gardens. The compositional structure of the garden is based on the techniques of abstract art, combining the traditional laws of harmony and the influence of Western civilisation, symbolising the perfect world of earthly nature. Characteristic elements of his composition are artificial mountains and hills, islands, lakes and bridges, paths and areas of sand or gravel, decorated with stones of unusual shapes. A place for relaxation and contemplation, walks and events, where two significant objects are located – the pavilion of the Japanese-style Ryoyei restaurant and the minimalistic light coffee house Kissaten.
