Cliff Concept Hotel

First of all I'd like to thank you for your interest. Pulpit rock has been one of the most exiting places to me through years. One day a friend of mine send me photos of "the rock" she captured during her Norway trip.

What inspired you to develop the design?

First of all I’d like to thank you for your interest. Pulpit rock has been one of the most exiting places to me through years. One day a friend of mine send me photos of “the rock” she captured during her Norway trip. Photos were taken like right behind the edge of the gigantic rock. Even I weren’t be there, I experienced the adrenaline of being on the edge. Then I dreamed of living on and beyond the edge.

Simply, I just wanted carry this experience beyond the edge and the idea of having this experience inspired me. I think this is equal to swimming
in gravity-free environment. The pool was one and only design element of project at the begining. A pool like hanging under the cliff by itself
scared me. Then I found the lost part of the cliff. Hotel structure that bending over the fyord was “protector” of the pool. As I mentioned hotel
can be considered a part or an extrension of the cliff. I thougt that experiencing beyond the edge is much more thrilling in a pool rather than
a balconie.

What is the reason behind the choice of location?

If built, how many rooms do you envisage the hotel having?

Nine rooms and a lounge are located in the hotel.

What do you imagine the material to be constructed from?

Engineering calculations and evaluations would carry the design to different dimensions but it’s not the point of my design. As I mentioned
it is a conceptual sketch. The structure possibly could be composite of steel and RC.

Why do you think it’s important for architects/designers to imagine projects like this?

Before answering question you asked, I want to clearify ambiguous state of my design. Sometimes there are some places or topics exist that exite
me and spark on my mind as an idea. I dream about it and sometimes work on it to design. It could be a chair, a small space or a building and
environment. Mentioned design is one of them too. That kind of works raise my creativity and make me find interesting ideas for my “real
world” designs. I called that activity, what if-brainstorming. What if there is something like that on somewhere in this universe? Actually the
design is answer of this question in a particular place. So, we should consider the design as just a sketch. Although projects and designs
create not meant to be built, they inspire us to create something different and feed us in different ways.
