Spread across two adjoining sites in the Palermo neighborhood, the program integrates artist residencies, production workshops, exhibition spaces, and public-facing areas such as a café and bookstore—creating an environment where creation, exhibition, and community interaction coexist in an integrated way. The client’s goal was to establish a cultural centre with strong local impact and international projection. In response, 2EC Arquitectos designed a building that prioritizes permeability, flexibility, and the visibility of artistic processes. The spatial layout encourages interaction between creators and visitors, consolidating an ecosystem in which creative practice and public circulation mutually enhance each other. The project is built using exposed concrete and galvanized steel, with technical installations left visible to allow easy adaptation by artists and curators. Natural light and cross ventilation define the interior atmosphere, with workshops arranged around patios and terraces that foster openness, vertical connection, and functional versatility. Construction is divided into two phases, distributed across the two adjoining lots. Phase A includes exhibition spaces, workshops, and service areas. Phase B houses the café/bookstore, artist residencies, secondary storage, and a private atelier. The façade operates as a large urban frame that can be used by artists for public exhibitions, integrating the city itself as an active participant in the project’s cultural landscape. 2EC Arquitectos is responsible for the full scope of the project, including design, construction management, procurement, and on-site supervision. The studio supported the client in material selection, contract and supplier management, maintaining close oversight of construction details to ensure the outcome meets the project’s high technical and conceptual standards.
