Casa de Gobierno, in Buenos Aires

Prior to completion, the building was awarded Best Sustainable Building in Argentina (2012).

Energy/Sustainability
Combined displacement and chilled beam ventilation system, which adapts to the open floor plate. Passive solar control to achieve high standard of comfort, glare control and reduction of internal heat gain provided by:
• Aluminium and precast concrete vertical louvre screens
• Generous roof canopy

Structural System
Exposed concrete roof structure. In-situ concrete substructure and superstructure, with a very high quality fair faced finish throughout. The 20m high curtain wall on the main façade is supported by a steel structure, which works independently from any other structural system yet is connected to it. The structural systems were devised to take the roof deflection and other potential movements.

Main Materials
Architectural fair faced concrete, glass, aluminium, sustainable timber and stone flooring. To achieve as light a colour as possible without using white cement, 30% of slag was incorporated as standard in the mix. Using a combination of shuttering technologies, such as phenolic panels and metal, visible joint lines were reduced. The finish was achieved by cleaning and sanding the entire building by hand.
