Beseda Ořechovka Tennis Club

The new tennis club pavilion is located in the very heart of Prague's district of Ořechovka. It was built on the site of a small wooden clubhouse that stood there during the First Republic, which was replaced in the 1980s by a temporary building of prefabricated site units. This 'temporary structure' lasted for almost 50 years and has deteriorated badly.

Situated on a 500 m² plot, the single-storey home kept its original structure, preserving elements that the owners appreciated, while receiving an extensive renovation to integrate rooms and enhance the outdoor areas.

Floating above a meadow, Whidbey Uparati minimizes visual and physical impact on the natural landscape by blending into the site rather than asserting itself upon it. Upon approach, the meadow vegetation surrounds a winding path up a steady slope to the house. The house is a family retreat for meditation, bonding, and uparati – “stillness” in sanskrit.
