Aurelien Chen is a French architect, building engineer, and architectural photographer with 20 years of international experience on small- and large-scale projects. He joined Cui Kai Studio (CADG) in Beijing, China, for ten years, where he specialized in cultural and renovation projects.

He now develops his own design practice, and is also one of the main partners of Zhijian Workshop, a multidisciplinary design studio whose work blurs the boundaries between the various disciplines: architecture, interior design, design, art, photography, scenography, etc.

This multidisciplinary approach of architecture gives him the opportunity to work on various topics and types of projects, each new project being a singular experience. Recently, his collaborative work with “Urban and rural planning and design institute of CSCEC” led him to work on smaller scale projects with strong relationship with natural surroundings: architectural installation, pavilions, etc.

His was recently awarded FD100 Awards. This prize, under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and sponsored by Philippe Starck, has selected the top 100 object and space design projects that promote French design around the world. He was also double winner at Architecture Masterprize 2021, honoree at Best of Year Awards 2020, shortlisted at ABB Leaf Awards 2021, finalist at The Plan Awards 2021, longlisted at Dezeen Awards 2021.

Four Public Pavilions

The four pavilions are located in a park along one of the main arteries of Beijing. These pavilions have several functions: public restrooms; rest and service area for walkers; offices for park management staff; storage and rest rooms for the park gardeners.

Sentinel House

Once upon a time in Audierne lived a local fisherman nicknamed “Sentinel”. He observed the sea from the hills towering the village harbor. One century later, his descendants bought a piece of land in Audierne, up on a hill and facing the same ocean horizon their ancestor used to gaze at.
