Taller KEN

Taller KEN is a New York and Guatemala based practice focused on playful design with social and cultural relevancy. Founded in 2013, the firm embraces the collaborative nature of making partnerships and connections. Incorporating a multitude of voices, our work goes beyond merely elevating elements of design to creating an architecture with broad appeal.

The firm often works in developing countries and urban areas defined by an imbalance of growth and social inequities. Realizing projects in this context has helped the practice establish its approach to working in the public realm. In 2016, Taller KEN began an annual design-build initiative in order to work more closely with local communities. The program, FUNdaMENTAL brings design interns together with real world problems and partners to engage in all phases of realizing of a public urban intervention for the collective good.

Inés Guzmán and Gregory Melitonov prior to founding the practice worked for Pritzker Prize laureate Renzo Piano. Both gained a great deal of experience on large construction projects in Manhattan as part of the design team for the Whitney Museum of American Art and the headquarters building for the High Line.

Inés holds a Masters and Bachelors degree in Architecture from the Universidad del Diseño de San José, Costa Rica. Gregory holds a Masters in Architecture from Yale University and a Bachelors of Science in Studio Art from Skidmore College.

Killing Matt Woods

Matt Woods Design was born in 2009 with the intention of creating kick ass interiors – doing their part to reduce the heavy burden the construction industry places on the environment.

” I haven’t reversed climate change, but I’m honoured to have been acknowledged and have had projects published in some of the publications I most admire , as well as a bunch of major overseas titles.”

Diverse experience? “Yeah, I reckon I’ve got that too. I’m an industrial designer by training & have a post graduate certificate in Sustainable Architecture from Sydney Uni.” Over the last 10 years Woods has created award winning designs for a diverse range of industries including hospitality, retail, workplace and residential projects.

Below, you’ll find the list of awards Woods has won and what he calls “some nice stuff from the media about how great I am”.

Woods’ message to his potential clients? “What I really recommend is you just give me a call so we can talk about you and turning your ideas into something mind blowing!” And that pretty much sums up his overall approachability and aesthetic.

Hacer arquitectura.

Modus Studio

Operating on the idea that relevant and inspiring architecture can be sourced from simple, everyday experiences, modus studio departs from the general rule of form to create thoughtful architecture that begins to shape the present landscape and plan for a sustainable future. Modus is rooted in Northwest Arkansas and champions architecture as a means of navigating the threshold between the natural and manmade world. Based in a thinking/making philosophy, modus studio bridges the worlds of design and fabrication with modus shop, providing the ability to build the things they believe in, to the level of craft they seek. The firm has received numerous regional and national awards for their work, most recently receiving the 2018 Architectural League of New York’s Emerging Voices Award.
