Vila do Bispo
Located in the historic fabric of Vila do Bispo, the project reinterprets a group of existing warehouse structures through the addition of a new architectural volume that both extends and reframes them.
Designed as a contemporary counterpart to the original naves, the new building establishes a formal continuity while asserting itself as the main entrance and a clear marker of the intervention in time.
The new volume accommodates all technical, administrative, and social functions, allowing the entire interior of the original warehouses to be freed for exhibition use. Inside the existing naves, a neutral grey exterior and a black interior envelope create a chromatic abstraction that heightens the presence of an organic, dynamic exhibition layout, guiding visitors intuitively through the space.
In contrast, the extension is expressed as a monolithic, red-pigmented concrete volume — a deliberate urban and territorial landmark. Its solid-void composition echoes the geometry of the original buildings while redefining the relationship between interior, exterior, and landscape. The result is a museum that feels simultaneously timeless and contemporary: a place that appears to have always belonged to Vila do Bispo, while giving the town a new architectural identity.
