Casa ĪBA

In the south of Bahia, amid the tropical exuberance of Outeiro das Brisas, Casa ĪBA — designed by Daniel Fromer with interiors by Marina Linhares — embodies a vision of architecture that intertwines with its surroundings. More than just a house, it is a sensitive extension of the landscape: an invitation to live in harmony with the local climate, culture, and nature.

Casa ĪBA: Architecture Born from the Landscape, in Trancoso

From the very first sketch, the intention was clear: to celebrate the surroundings, placing nature at the forefront. The architectural volumes settle into the terrain organically, blending seamlessly with the lush landscaping by Rodrigo Oliveira, which acts not just as a complement but as a living extension of the native forest. Among oil palms, bromeliads, and mangaba trees, the house becomes a sensory spectacle — a tropical and Brazilian experience that feels as if everything has always belonged there.

Sunlight flows freely through the space, mingling with architectural volumes and vegetation to create plays of shadow and movement that shift throughout the day. Wide openings allow for cross ventilation, ensuring thermal comfort efficiently and reducing the need for air conditioning. Large glass doors and panels dissolve the boundaries between inside and out, allowing the house to fully open to the garden and coastal breeze.

The careful choice of natural and sustainable materials — such as local wood, eco-friendly paints, and water harvesting systems — reinforces a commitment to the land. Even faced with the challenges of sandy soil and the rocky base of the cliff, the project overcame limitations with creativity, establishing a vibrant garden irrigated with well water and filled with species adapted to heat and humidity. The result: a home that embraces, breathes, and promotes biodiversity, attracting native fauna and strengthening its connection with the environment.

Casa ĪBA is an example of how architecture can become part of the landscape — not as the protagonist, but as a mediator between the human and the natural. A space where living is also an act of contemplation.
