Streets without children, neighbors that do not know each other, the - invariable - isolation of dwellings. The residential unit is close to the prison unit.
The unit as drawing of the city
There is a process for sociologist Zygmunt Bauman of global openness through digital social networks, and local isolation through the high walls, the condominiums, the fortress-building as a guarantee of false security. While not guaranteeing security in practical terms, the major problem of configuration is a loss of – undervalued – gentleness, it is a loss of social relationship, it is a distance from the other. What society do we want to build?
Jane Jacobs, based on data, and a perception of individuals argue that the presence of people on the streets and inside their dwellings overlooking a street create a safer, more vibrant living environment for residents and passers-by to act unconsciously as Site watchers. They are the eyes of the street.
The unity
The project was conceived in order to allow diverse configurations of inhabitants and occupations. It has 65 sqm of built area. With social and private environments with comfortable dimensions to use. There is also a generous outside area of 87 square meters which can be used as a garage for more than one vacancy, for the larger truck, but above all, to accentuate as more interesting characteristics in dwelling in single-storey residence, which is possible of activities Like activities For the backyard, to realize for example, the traditional “churrasco” that is part of the Brazilian culture, is a social event for the approach of the people, and yet, is more and more difficult to happen spontaneously. The strategy used to treat a single-family dwelling house as such, and not as an apartment unit, valuing its most striking features, as understanding as a great project potentiality.
Customization
Another problem of horizontal housing units is the monotony of forms, all houses are the same, as if all people have the same tastes, the same personalities, are treated as if they were just numbers to be attended to. Residents have a need, rather than a sense of belonging, to make their dwelling a reflection of their wills and beliefs, and in this way the building and the neighborhood is valued.
With this objective a front panel of customizable tiles is proposed, as the last item of delivery of the property, the residents choose what they want to record on the façade of their house, in this way making it unique, and even so meeting the technical-economic criteria Of mass production.
In addition to the panel, the facade with a generous plan of glass allows differentiation of the other units by means of bricks, shutters, and curtains with their textures, dimensions and colors distinct from each other, but still, keeping a general ordering of the shape.
