Xixi Artists’ Club House in Hangzhou, China
Located near the wetlands west of central Hangzhou, the Xixi Artists' Club is laid out like a village with five units.
Each cluster relies on three Y-shaped volumes in two sizes, capped with six- and three-metre-square frameless windows, creating panoramas of the surrounding landscape. Twisting fiberglass installations work with the cubic structure to redefine internal spaces and join walls, floors, and ceilings together.
The larger six metre tall structure is concrete, while the smaller sections sport translucent white PC panels to diffuse direct sunlight. The confrontation between the oblique with the linear, the translucent panels with the concrete, and the external shape with the interior installations create a heightened sense of space.
