Autor: Susan Fitzgerald Architecture

Susan Fitzgerald Architecture is a Halifax-based design, build and research practice: a laboratory for the integration of architectural design and intellectual content, with a focus on the city and landscape. The work explores the intimacy between design and the craft of construction: the combined act of making where development, research, and architecture actively inform one another. The design-build insertions into the urban fabric challenge ideas about nature, density, land use by-laws, and program diversity in the city. Each of the projects pursues important architectural ideas, which have been recognized through awards, journal coverage, and exhibitions. Founded in 2006, Susan Fitzgerald Architecture works closely with the construction firm Brainard Fitzgerald Developments.

Susan Fitzgerald has been the recipient of many awards, including the Professional Prix de Rome, the EnRoute Air Canada Award in partnership with the RAIC, and the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal of Excellence. The Productive Urban Landscapes: Cities Cultivation Context exhibition was part of a lecture series in Canada and the UK, focusing on the spatial relationship between cities and food, both in cultivation and consumption. The firm’s innovative method of creating architecture has been explored in an international exhibition: The Force is in the Mind. The Making of Architecture.

Susan Fitzgerald is an assistant professor at Dalhousie University.
