Karakusevic Carson Architects are an independent multi-award winning practice at the forefront of public buildings, social housing design, mixed-tenure housing, infrastructure & transport and other major public projects across London.

Our individual building projects – including masterplans, urban regeneration programmes, mixed-use and tenure housing and estate renewal projects – range from £3m to £250m in value, with larger strategic masterplan projects ranging from £100m to £3.5bn. We have an impressive track record of designing projects in the most challenging locations that have previously stalled or were historically unviable. Many of these projects are now on site and completing in 2018. We have always been motivated to work directly with the public sector and their chosen project partners to achieve maximum value capture for the public sector and achieve the highest design and social outcomes on all of our schemes. These outcomes can be mutually beneficial and through working with local residents & stakeholders, good design and strategic thinking can help improve the built fabric and social & economic life of London.

We are appointed as panel architects and masterplanners for many leading public-sector bodies and housing associations, working with twelve London Boroughs, the Greater London Authority/Transport for London, Homes and Communities Agency and Olympic Legacy client groups. As experts at making difficult projects happen, we successfully navigate emerging funding structures, planning, policy and national design standards to create exemplary housing and public buildings that reflect a unique sense of place, responding to local character and heritage and are supported by local communities.

A design and strategy led practice, we formed with the sole intent to raise standards in public housing design and public buildings in the UK after 40 years of neglect. Our team understands the tough challenges faced by the local communities on the large housing estates in London, setting out to adapt, repair or replace what doesn’t work with ambitious designs for homes and places that do whilst evolving and refining housing and building types with each scheme. We employ an extremely talented team of architects and masterplanners who are knowledgeable about housing and public buildings and making remarkable buildings and places. This work has led to a series of public and community focused building commissions including stations, schools, leisure centres, health and community centres for the 21st century and beyond.

Our projects have won numerous National RIBA, Housing Design, New London Architecture and Civic Trust Awards. The practice has been named ‘Housing Architect of the Year’ in 2012 and 2014 and shortlisted for ‘Masterplanner of the Year’ in 2015 and 2017.
